अरण्यसंवर्णनं नामैकादशः परिच्छेदः

araṇyasaṃvarṇanaṃ nāmaikādaśaḥ paricchedaḥ |



tadevamugradattaparipṛcchāvidhinā gṛhadoṣān bhāvayitvā śrutavatā cittaṃ śodhayitumaraṇyamāśrayaṇīyamiti sthitam | tathā coktaṃ candrapradīpasūtre-



na jātu kāmān pratiṣevamāṇaḥ putreṣu dāreṣu janitva tṛṣṇām ||

gṛhaṃ ca sevitva jugupsanīyamanuttarāṃ prāpsyati so'grabodhim ||

ye kāma varjanti yathā'gnikarṣūṃ putreṣu dāreṣu janitva tṛṣṇām |

uttrasta gehādabhiniṣkramanti na durlabhā teṣviyamagrabodhiḥ ||

na kaści buddhaḥ purimeṇa āsīdanāgato bheṣyati yo'vatiṣṭhate |

yehi sthitaireva agāramadhye prāptā iyaṃ uttama agrabodhiḥ ||

prahāya rājyaṃ yatha kheṭapiṇḍaṃ vasedaraṇyeṣu vivekakāmaḥ |

kleśān prahāya vinihatya mānaṃ budhyanti bodhiṃ virajāmasaṃskṛtām || peyālaṃ ||

annehi pānehi ca cīvarehi puṣpehi gandhehi vilepanehi |

nnopasthitā bhonti narottamā jinā yatha pravrajitvā caramāṇa dharmān ||

yaścaica bodhiṃ pratikāṅkṣamāṇaḥ sattvārtha nirviṇṇa kusaṃskṛtātaḥ |

araṇyābhimukha sapta padāni gacched ayaṃ tataḥ puṇyaviśiṣṭa bhoti ||

yadi punarvisabhāgasattvānunayātpariṣatkāmatayā vā lābhādikāmatayā vā vivekapraveśe vilambeta, tadarthamatraivoktam-



na vijña bālehi karonti vigrahaṃ satkṛtya bālān parivarjayanti |

mamāntike ceti praduṣṭacitta na bāladharmehi karonti saṃstavam ||

na vijña bālāna karoti sevanāṃ viditva bālāna svabhāvasaṃtatim |

kiyacciraṃ bālasusevināpi puno'pi te bhonti amitrasaṃnibhāḥ ||

na vijña bāleṣviha viśvasanti vijñāya bālāna svabhāvasaṃtatim ||

svabhāvabhinnā prakṛtīya bālāḥ kuto'sti mitraṃ hi pṛthagjanānām ||

sahadhārmikeno vacanena uktāḥ krodhaṃ ca doṣaṃ ca apratyayaṃ ca |

prāviṣkarontī imi bāladharmā imamartha vijñāya na viśvasanti ||

bālā hi bālehi samaṃ samenti yathā amedhyena amedhya sārdham |

vijñā punarvijñajanena sārdhaṃ samenti sarpiryatha sarpimaṇḍe ||



tathā ca punaratraivamāha-

sūsukhitāḥ sada te nara loke yeṣu priyāpriya nāsti kahiṃcit |

ye ca na kandarake'bhiramante śrāmaṇakaṃ susukhaṃ anubhonti ||

yeṣu mamāpi tu nāsti kahiṃcit yeṣu parigrahu sarvaśu nāsti |

khaṅgasamā vicarantimu lokaṃ gagane pavana yatheva vrajanti ||

syuḥ sukhitā bata te nara loke yeṣa na sajjati mānasa loke |

vāyusamaṃ sada teṣviha cittaṃ no ca priyāpriya vidyati saṅgo ||

apriya ye dukhitehi nivāso ye'pi priyā dukhitehi viyogo |

anta ume api te hi eti jahitvā te sukhitā nara ye rata dharme ||



punaratraivoktam-



bhavati satatamalpakṛtyayogī pṛthu guṇadoṣata sarvi varjayitvā |

na vivadati kadāci yuktayogī imi guṇa tasya bhavantyaraṇyavāse ||

saṃda bhavati niviṇṇa saṃskṛte'sau na bhavati tasya pṛhā kahici loke |

na ca bhavati vivṛddhirāstravāṇāṃ vana vasato'sya bhavanti ānuśaṃsāḥ ||

adhikaraṇa na tasya jātu bhotī sada upaśāntarato vivekacārī |

vacasi manasi kāya saṃvṛtasyo bahu guṇa tasya bhavantyaraṇyavāse ||

bhavati ca anukūla tasya mokṣo laghupratividhyati so'dhimukti śāntām |

vanicaridhimukti sevato'sya imi guṇa bhontyaraṇyavāsi sarve ||

punarāha-

vanaṣaṇḍa sevatha vivikta sadā vijahitva grāmanagareṣu gatim |

advitīya khaṅgasama bhotha sadā na cireṇa lapsyatha samādhivaram || iti||



āryarāṣṭrapālasūtre'pyāha-



tyaktvā gehamanantadoṣagahanaṃ cintānapekṣāḥ sadā

te'raṇye ratimāpnuvanti guṇinaḥ śāntendriyāḥ sūratāḥ |

na strīsaṃbhava naiva cāpi puruṣaisteṣāṃ kkacidvidyate

ekākī viharanti khaṅgasadṛśāḥ śuddhāśayā nirmalāḥ ||

lābhairnāpi ca teṣu harṣa svamano līyantyalābhairna ca

alpecchā itaretarairabhiratā māyākuhāvarjitāḥ ||iti||



ugradattaparipṛcchāyāmayyāha- sattvasaṃsargo me na kartavyaḥ, na hi mayaikasattvasya kuśalamūlāni saṃjanayitavyānītyādi ||



yadi punaḥ śrutavānimāṃ kṣaṇasaṃpadamāsādya lābhādau saktaḥ cittaṃ na śodhayet, sa evaikaḥ sadevake loke vañcitaḥ syāt || uktaṃ hi āryaratnakūṭe- tadyathā kāśyapa kaścideva puruṣo mahatā udakārṇavenohyamāna udakatṛṣṇayā kālaṃ kuryāt evameva kāśyapa ihaike śramaṇabrāhmaṇā bahūn dharmānudgṛhyaparyavāpya na rāgatṛṣṇāṃ vinodayanti, na dveṣatṛṣṇām, na mohatṛṣṇāṃ vinodayanti | te mahatā dharmārṇavenohyamānāḥ kleśatṛṣṇayā kālagatā durgativinipātagāmino bhavantīti||



tasmādavaśyamaraṇyamāśrayet | tādṛśāni ca sthānāni āśrayet, yeṣu ca sthāneṣu nātidūre piṇḍapātagocaro bhavati nātisaṃnikṛṣṭe, yeṣu pānīyāni bhavantyacchāni śucīni nirmalānyalpāyāsāni sukhaparibhogāni | yāni ca sthānāni vṛkṣasaṃpannāni bhavanti, puṣpasaṃpannāni phalasaṃpannāni patrasaṃpannānyapagataduṣṭaśvāpadāni guhāsaṃpannāni prāgbhārasaṃpannāni sukhaparisarpyakāṇi śāntānyadvitīyāni, tādṛśāni sthānānyāśrayet | sa teṣu sthāneṣvāśrito yadanena pūrvaṃ paṭhitaṃ bhavati, tat tribhī rātraistrirdivasasya svādhyāyati nātyuccena svareṇa nātinīcena noddhatairindriyairna bahirgatena cittena prasādamupajīvan granthamupadhārayannimittānyudgṛhṇan middhamapakrāman | sacedāraṇyakasya bhikṣo rājā vopasaṃkrāmati rājamātro vā anye vā brāhmaṇakṣatriyanaigamajānapadāḥ, tena teṣāmādareṇa svāgatakriyā kartavyā | evaṃ cānena vaktavyam- niṣīda mahārāja yathāprajñapta āsane | sacedupaviśati, dvābhyāmapyupaveṣṭavyam | sacennopaviśati, ubhābhyāmapi nopaveṣṭavyam | saceccalendriyo bhavati, utkarṣayitavyam | tasya te mahārāja lābhāḥ sulabdhā yasya te bhūpradeśe śīlavanto guṇavanto bahuśrutāḥ śramaṇabrāhmaṇāḥ prativasanti anupadrutāścaurabhaṭādibhiḥ | sacet sthiro bhavati vinītaḥ praśāntendriyaḥ, bhavyaśca bhavati dharmadeśanāyāḥ, tato'sya vicitrā dharmadeśanā upasaṃhartavyā | sacedvicitrāṃ na priyāyate, saṃvegānukūlā dharmadeśanā upasaṃhartavyā | sacetsaṃvegā[nukūlāṃ] na priyāyate, udārodārāṇi tathāgatamāhātmyāni upadeṣṭavyāni | brāhmaṇakṣatriyanaigamajānapadānāmapyupasaṃkrāmatāṃ yathānurūpāḥ kriyā upasaṃhartavyāḥ | sa evaṃ bahuśrutaḥ sat pratibalo bhavati dhārmaśravaṇikānāṃ cittamārādhayitum | te ca sattvāstasyāntike prītiṃ ca prasādaṃ ca prāmodyaṃ ca pratilabhanta iti ||



ugradattaparipṛcchāyāmapyāha- punaraparaṃ gṛhapate pravrajitena bodhisattvenāraṇye prativasatā evamupaparīkṣitavyam | kimarthamahamaraṇye prativasāmi? na kevalamaraṇyavāsena śramaṇo bhavati | bahavo'pyatra adāntā avinītā ayuktā anabhiyuktāḥ prativasanti | tadyathā-mṛgavānarapakṣisaṃghacauracaṇḍālāḥ prativasanti | na ca te śramaṇaguṇasamanvāgatā bhavanti | api tu khalu punarahaṃ yasyārthāya araṇye prativasāmi, sa mayā arthaḥ paripūrayitavyo yaduta śrāmaṇyārthaḥ || pe || punaraparaṃ gṛhapate pravrajitena bodhisattvena araṇye viharatā evamupaparīkṣitavyam-kimarthamahamaraṇyamāgataḥ? tenaivaṃ mīmāṃsayitavyam-bhayabhīto'smyahamaraṇyamāgataḥ | kuto bhayabhītaḥ? saṃgaṇikābhayabhītaḥ | saṃsargabhayabhīto rāgadveṣamohabhayabhīto mānamadabhrakṣaparidāhabhayabhīto lomerṣyāmātsaryabhayabhītaḥ rūpaśabdagandharasasparṣṭavyabhayabhītaḥ | so'haṃkāramamakārabhayabhītaḥ | auddhatyavicikitsābhayabhītaḥ | skandhamārabhayabhītaḥ | kleśamārabhayabhītaḥ | mṛtyumārabhayabhīto devaputramārabhayabhītaḥ | anitye nitya iti viparyāsabhayabhīto'nātmani ātmeti viparyāsabhayabhīto'śucau śuciriti viparyāsabhayabhīto duḥkhe sukhamiti viparyāsabhayabhītaḥ | cittamanovijñānabhayabhīto nīvaraṇāvaraṇaparyutthānabhayabhītaḥ | satkāyadṛṣṭibhayabhītaḥ pāpamitrabhayabhīto lābhasatkārabhayabhīto'kālamantrabhayabhīto'dṛṣṭe dṛṣtamiti bhayabhīto'śrute śrutamiti bhayabhīto'mate matamiti bhayabhīto'vijñāte vijñātamiti bhayabhīto'śramaṇe śramaṇamadabhayabhīto'nyonyavidveṣaṇabhayabhītaḥ kāmadhāturūpadhātvarūpyadhātubhayabhītaḥ sarvabhavagatyupapattibhayabhīto nirayatiryagyonipitṛviṣayabhayabhītaḥ | saṃkṣepeṇa sarvebhyo'kuśalebhyo manasikārebhyo bhayabhītaḥ | ebhyo hyahamevaṃrūpebhyo bhayabhairavebhyo bhīto'raṇyāvāsamupagataḥ || pe|| punaraparaṃ gṛhapate pravrajitena bodhisattvenāraṇyavāsasthitena bhītena vā trastena vā evaṃ śikṣitavyam- yāni kānicidbhayānyutpadyante sarvāṇī, tānyātmagrāhata utpadyante || pe|| sacetpunarahamaraṇye prativasannātmagrāhaṃ parityajeyam, nātmābhiniveśaṃ nātmaparigrahaṃ nātmanidānaṃ nātmatṛṣṇāṃ nātmasaṃjñāṃ nātmavādopādānaṃ nātmadṛṣṭiṃ nātmādhiṣṭhānaṃ nātmaparikalpanāṃ nātmarakṣāṃ parityajeyam, nirarthako me'raṇyavāsaḥ syāt | api tu khalu punargṛhapate nāstyātmasaṃjñino'raṇyavāso nāsti parasaṃjñinaḥ || pe|'raṇyavāso nāma gṛhapate ucyate sarvadharmeṣvasaṃbhavavāsaḥ sarvadharmeṣvasaṅgavāsaḥ || pe| tadyathā gṛhapate araṇye tṛṇagulmauṣadhivanaspatayaḥ prativasanto na bibhyati, notrasyanti, na saṃtrasyanti, na saṃtrāsamāpadyante, evameva gṛhapate pravrajitena bodhisattvena araṇye viharatā tṛṇagulmauṣadhivanaspatikāṣṭhakuḍayavadātmapratibhāsavatsaṃjñākāye utpādayitavyā | māyāsamatā cittasyotpādayitavyā | ko'tra bibheti? ko'sminnutrasyati? tena bhayabhītena vā trastena vā evaṃ yoniśaḥ kāya upaparikṣitavyaḥ _ nāstyatra kāye ātmā va sattvo vā jīvo vā poṣo vā pudgalo vā manujo vā | abhūtaparikalpa eṣa yaduta bhayaṃ nāma | sa mayā abhūtaparikalpo na parikalpayitavyaḥ | tena yathā araṇye tṛṇagulmauṣadhivanaspatayaḥ prativasanti amamā aparigrahāḥ, evamevāmamenāparigraheṇāraṇyameva sarvadharmā iti jñātvā upasaṃpadya vihartavyam | tatkasya hetoḥ? raṇacchedo'raṇyavāso'mamo'parigrahaḥ | pe|| punaraparaṃ gṛhapate pravrajitena bodhisattvena buddhānujñāto 'raṇyavāsa iti jñātvā araṇye vastavyam | atra hi śukladharmaparipūrirbhavati | upastabdhakuśalamūlaḥ paścād grāmanagaranigamarāṣṭrarājadhānīṣvavatīrya dharmaṃ deśayiṣyāmi || pe || sacetpunargṛhapate pravrajito bodhisattva uddeśasvādhyāyārthaṃ gaṇamavatarati, tena tatra sagauraveṇa bhavitavyaṃ sapratīśenācāryopādhyāyeṣu sthaviramadhyanavakeṣu bhikṣuṣu pradakṣiṇaṃ bhavitavyamanalasena svayaṃkāriṇā aparopatāpinā | na ca tenopasthānagurukeṇa bhavitavyam | evaṃ cānenopaparīkṣitavyam | tathāgato'pyarhan samyaksaṃbuddhaḥ sadevasya lokasya samārakasya sabrahmakasya saśramaṇabrāhmaṇikāyāḥ prajāyāḥ pūjito dakṣiṇīyaḥ sarvasattvānām | so'pi tāvanna kasyacitsakāśādupasthānaṃ svīkaroti, kiṃ punarasmābhiraśikṣitaiḥ śikṣitukāmaiḥ? api tu vayameva sarvasattvānāmupasthāyakā bhaviṣyāmaḥ | vayameva pareṣāmupasthānaparicaryāṃ kariṣyāmaḥ, na ca punaḥ kasyacitsakāśādupasthānaparicaryāṃ svīkariṣyāmaḥ | tatkasya hetoḥ? upasthānagurukasya hi gṛhapate bhikṣorguṇadharmānugraho naśyati | yeṣāṃ ca saṃgrahaṃ karoti, teṣāmevaṃ bhavati- upasthānahetoreṣo'smākaṃ saṃgrahaṃ karoti ||



putraratraivāha- sacetpunargṛhapate āraṇyako bodhisattvo dharmaśravaṇārthika ācāryopādhyāyadarśanārthiko vā glanaparipṛcchako vā grāmāntikaṃ śayanāsanamāgacchet, tena sāyamāgamanāya prakramaṇāya ca cittamutpādayitavyam | sacetpunarasya parapratibaddha uddeśaḥ svādhyāyo vā, tena vihāre prativasatā araṇyapravaṇacittena bhavitavyam | eṣa eva tasyāraṇyavāso yatsarvavastuṣvaraṇyasaṃjñā dharmaparyeṣṭayā cātṛptateti ||



āryaratnarātrisūtre'pyuktam- yadi punarasya tatrāraṇyāyatane viharato'prāptaphalapṛthagjanasya vyālamṛgā āgaccheyuḥ, tena tatra na bhayaṃ na trāsa utpādayitavyaḥ | evaṃ ca cittamutpādayitavyam- pūrvamevāhamutsṛṣṭakāyajīvito'raṇyavāsamupagataḥ | na mayātra bhetavyam notrasitavyam, api tu maitrīmutpādayi[tvā] doṣaṃ vivarjayiṣyāmi, bhayamapanayiṣyāmi | yadyevamapi kṛtvā te vyālamṛgā māṃ jīvitād vyaparopya bhuñjīran, tena mayaivaṃ cittamutpādayitavyam- lābhā me sulabdhā yasya me asārātkāyātsāramādattaṃ bhavipyati | na punarime vyālamṛgāḥ śakyā mayā āmiṣeṇa toṣayitum | mama māṃsaṃ bhakṣayitvā sukhasparśaṃ vihariṣyanti || pe|| yadi punastatrāraṇyāyatane viharato'manuṣyā upasaṃkramiṣyanti,suvarṇā va durvarṇā vā, tena na tatrānunetavyaṃ na pratihantavyam | yadi pūrvabuddhadarśino devatā āraṇyakaṃ bhikṣumupasaṃkramya praśnaṃ paripṛccheyuḥ tatra tenāraṇyakena yathāśakti yathābalaṃ yathādharmādhigamāya tāsāṃ devatānāṃ dharmo deśayitavyaḥ | yadi punastāvadgambhīrān praśnān paripṛccheyuḥ, yān sa āraṇyako bhikṣurna śaknuyādvisarjayitum, tena nirmānena bhūtvā vāgbhāṣitavyā, aśikṣito na paribhavitavyaḥ | yuñjiṣyāmi ghaṭiṣye buddhaśāsane | bhaviṣyati sa kālaḥ sa samayo yadā adhigatān dharmān śrutvā sarvakathāṃ visarjayiṣyāmi | api tu pratibhātu te vayaṃ dhārmaśravaṇikā iti || pe|| tena tatra araṇyāyatane prativasatā tṛṇagulmauṣadhivanaspatīnāṃ nimittaṃ grahītavyam | kathamete bhavanti? yathaiṣāṃ bhāvānāmasvāmikānāmamamānāmaparigrahāṇāmevaṃ niśceṣṭānāṃ nirvyāpārāṇāṃ bhavatyutpādo bhaṅgaśca, na caiṣāṃ kaścidutpādayitā, na nirodhayitā, evamevāyaṃ kāyastṛṇakāṣṭhakuḍayapratibhāsopamo'svāmiko'mamo'parigraho niśceṣṭo nirvyāparo hetupratyayayuttayā utpadyate, hetupratyayavaikalyānnirudhyate | na punaratra kaściddharmaḥ paramārthata utpadyate vā nirudhyate veti ||



punaścoktam- tena tatra araṇyāyatane viharatā evaṃ cittamutpādayitavyam- yadyapyahamaraṇyamāgata eko'dvitīyaḥ, na me kaścitsahāyo yo māṃ sukṛtaṃ duṣkṛtaṃ vā codayet | api tu khalu punaḥ santi me devanāgayakṣā buddhāśca bhagavanto ye mama cittāśayaṃ jānanti | te mama sākṣiṇaḥ | so'hamihāraṇyāyatane prativasannakuśalacittasya vaśaṃ gacchāmi | yadi punarahamiyaddūramāgataḥ, eko'dvitīyo'saṃstabdho'mamo'parigrahaḥ kāmavitarkaṃ vā vitarkayeyam, vyāpādaṃ vihiṃsāvitarkaṃ vā vitarkayeyam, anyaṃ vā akuśalavitarkaṃ vitarkayeyam, nirviśeṣo bhaveyaṃ saṃsargasaṃgaṇikābhiretaiḥ sattvaiḥ | te ca me devanāgayakṣā visaṃvāditāḥ, buddhāśca bhagavanto'nabhirāddhā bhaviṣyantīti ||



iti śikṣāsamuccaye araṇyasaṃvarṇanaṃ nāmaikādaśaḥ paricchedaḥ ||
